Bobber Bay
What. Bobber Bay features Fin, a naturally spoken shopkeeper NPC built on the Horizon NPC Platform. Players can walk up and talk to him without pressing a button, ask about the world, and interact through natural speech.
Why. Fin was a platform showcase for the kind of NPC that feels present rather than scripted: aware of nearby objects, responsive to what the player is doing, and able to carry context forward between interactions.
How. As tech lead for the Horizon NPC Platform, I helped build the foundations that powered Fin. The character understands his surroundings, can comment when players pick up or use objects, remembers relevant interactions, and supports open-ended conversation while still staying grounded in the fishing-world context.
Core features:
- Natural speech interaction with no button prompt.
- Contextual awareness of nearby objects and player actions.
- Memory across interactions.
- Horizon NPC Platform integration.
- Shopkeeper-style conversational game character.
